1. What is the meaning of the term ‘safari’?

Safari is a swahili name meaning adventure journey or travel.Originally the word safari meant «journey» in the Swahili language, which in turn comes from Arabic س (“safara”), which means travel. The verb travel in Swahili is “safiri“, the noun travel is “safari“. In that case, these words are used for any type of travel. Initially, it was taken to be the hunting expeditions to africa but has now become eco friendly form of adventure for all ages and walks of life.

2. What is the difference between hiking and trekking?

Hiking and trekking have many similarities mainly because they both involve walking and use the same gear/equipment but they are not the same.

Hiking involves long walks in a natural environment on hiking trails or footpaths for a day or overnight.

Trekking on the other hand involves rigorous walks in a wild natural environment for multiple days.

3. What is the meaning of a self drive safari?

Self drive safaris as the name suggests means that you are very much incharge and in the driver's seat. You take up the steering wheel and drive out into the wild on what is typically a no- frills camping trip. This kind of a safari gives you the opportunity to travel independently and see sights off the beaten track and away from tourist trails.

4. What kind of vehicles do you use on safari?

The type of vehicle to use on a safari depends on lots of factors. In Kenya, there are 3 main types of vehicles we use for safaris; 4×4 land cruisers, safari vans and overland trucks. More small safari cars can be used in cases like airport and hotel transfers especially in main towns but they are not cut for the wild.

Vaccination requirements change from time to time. Most countries require advance inoculations for yellow fever and a certificate for proof. We will however always advise you if the safari involves traveling to a malaria zone.

The answer is NO. English is spoken throughout East Africa, especially those in the tourism industry. Most of them actually speak other languages including your language. At an added cost, a tour guide who speaks your local language can be provided for the entire safari.

11. When is the best time to go on a safari?

If you cut for the safaris, all year round is the answer unless it's specific to wildlife viewing due to migration. In Kenya and Tanzania, you get the memorable opportunity of witnessing the migration of over one million animals.
